MASCULINE CARD WITH SLANTED FLAP

MASCULINE CARD WITH SLANTED FLAP

Hey everybody, happy Wednesday! The weeks sure seem to be rolling around pretty quickly these days. Leslie here, sharing a tutorial for making a masculine 'love you just because' card with a slanted flap. I sure do love me some fun folds and next in line come the fancy cuts which really make a statement! I used paper, stamps, ephemera, pin stripe peel-offs and sequins from our 'For Him' May release and I love how it turned out. This release is packed full of wonderful products to get your masculine project mojo going! And our team is having an IG Hop to celebrate this awesome release, so be sure to visit the Love From Lizi Instagram page to hop with us and get in on the chance to win a $30CAD gift card to shop on the site!

CUT THE CARD BASE AND LAYERS

HEAVYWEIGHT IVORY CARDSTOCK:
1.    Card base: 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”

LIGHTWEIGHT IVORY CARDSTOCK:
1.    Front layering panel: 4-1/8” x 5-3/8”

PATTERNED PAPER:
1.    Front/bottom layering panel: 2-1/8” x 4-1/8”
2.    Inside embellishing strip: 1/2” x 4-1/8”

SLANT CUT THE FRONT FLAP

From the top edge of the folded card base, measure down to 3-1/4” on the left edge and 4-1/4” on the right edge, make light pencil marks, and trim the front flap off at an angle at the pencil marks. Erase any remaining pencil marks and keep the piece you just cut off.

INK THE PANELS & CARD BASE

First, slant cut the bottom edge of the lightweight ivory panel and the top edge of the striped pattern paper panel. I found the easiest way to get the angled cuts even was to lay the ivory panel on the card base, trace the angled edge on the back side, and then trim 1/8” inside the line. I used the same technique for the striped pattern paper panel by laying it on the loose leftover piece cut from the front flap of the card base.

Now let’s get a little messy with some mixed media work. For the front panel, I used Memento Rich Cocoa and Espresso Truffle dye inks mopped up with a wet paper towel and lightly blotted randomly onto the panel. I also used Ranger Antique Linen and Vintage Photo Distress Spritz, sprayed and splattered. Then I did some hand stamping (without stamp blocks) using several stamps in the Summer Botany Stamp Set. The final touch was using Ranger Walnut Stain Distress Ink around the edges of the panel which I distressed first with the Tim Holtz Distress Tool.

I distressed the edges of the striped pattern paper panel with the distress tool then inked them with Walnut Stain distress ink.

I opened up the card base and also lightly distressed the inside of it using the same techniques and products (sans the stamping).

ADHERE THE LAYERS

Once the mixed media work on the front panel is completely dry, adhere the panel to the card base.

Next, locate the loose leftover piece previously cut from the front flap of the card base. Line up the edges and adhere it flat to the card base. And lastly, adhere the striped patterned paper panel.

ADD THE EHEMERA & SENTIMENTS

Add several pieces of Vintage Escapes Ephemera to the card front.

Stamp a sentiment from the Summer Botany Stamp Set in Memento Rich Cocoa ink on an ivory cardstock scrap. Tear it on all four sides, lightly ink the edges with Walnut Stain distress ink, and adhere it to the lower left corner, popping it up on thin 3D foam squares.

For the inside, distress the edges of the narrow striped pattern paper embellishing strip with the distress tool, ink it with Walnut Stain distress ink, and adhere it to the top.

Stamp a sentiment from the same stamp set in the brown ink.

COMPLETE THE PROJECT

Add two strips of Brown Mirror Pinstripe Peel-Off Stickers and some sequins from the For Him Sequin Mix to the card front, and this will complete the project.
