DIAMOND COLUMN FRIENDSHIP CARD

DIAMOND COLUMN FRIENDSHIP CARD

Hey everybody, Happy Wednesday! I hope you’re having a good week and you’re finding some time to craft. I’m a crafting junkie and absolutely love making fun folds. In all honesty, I’d rather make fun folds than regular cards, lol! Leslie here, sharing a tutorial for making a diamond column pop up card. This fun fold is new to me and I really enjoyed making it. I’ve used items from our September super kit that is jam-packed with all kinds of amazing products. The super kit is put out once a year for the kit subscribers as a way of saying thanks for their support. The cost of the super kit is that of a regular monthly kit despite it being nearly double the value. It is available, however, as a one-off purchase for non-subscribers but at a slightly higher cost. It does sell out quickly every year so be sure to grab yours while it’s in stock!

These are the products I used on my project which may include affiliate/ad links that earn me a commission at no additional cost to you.

CUT CARD BASE & LAYERS

KRAFT CARDSTOCK (FROM STASH)
1.    Card base (cut 2): 6” x 11”, scored at 1”, 3-1/2”, 6”, 7”, 8”, 9” and 10”
2.    Columns (cut 2): 5” x 6”, scored at 1”, 2”, 3” and 4”

FOREST GREEN CARDSTOCK (FROM THE SUPER KIT) – forest green replaced the dark orange in the photo below
1.    Front and back layering panels (cut 4): 2-1/4” x 5-3/4”

PATTERNED PAPER (GARDEN GRACE 6X6 PAPER FROM THE SUPER KIT)
1.    Front layering panels (cut 2): 2” x 5-1/2”
2.    Column panels (cut 12): 3/4" x 5-3/4”

WHITE CARDSTOCK (FROM STASH)
1.    Back layering panels (cut 2): 2” x 5-1/2”

CONSTRUCT CARD BASE

Score the two 6” x 11” card base pieces as above. Fold the score lines on both pieces and burnish with a bone folder. For demonstration purposes, I have one of the two card base pieces on my score board in the photo below.

Starting on the right side, fold the last two sections at the 9” and 10” score lines over toward the left.

Apply wet glue to the back side of the outermost section.

Lay it down flat and fold the 7” score line over toward the right. Press to adhere.

The first card base piece with column is complete. Repeat these steps to construct the second card base piece.

CONSTRUCT EXTRA COLUMNS

Fold the score lines on both column pieces and burnish with a bone folder. As before, for demonstration purposes, I have one of the two column pieces on my score board.

Starting on the right side, fold the last two sections at the 3” and 4” score lines over toward the left.

Apply wet glue to the back side of the outermost section.

Lay it down flat and fold the 1” score line over toward the right. Press to adhere.

The first extra column is complete. Repeat these steps to construct the second extra column.

ADHERE EXTRA COLUMNS TO CARD BASE

Take one of the card base pieces with column and rotate it so the column is on the lower left. Flatten one of the extra columns and adhere it to the right side, lining up the edges.

This is what the card base piece should now look like with both columns. Repeat the above steps to adhere the second extra column to the second card base piece.

Now that both of the card base pieces have the extra columns attached, position them so they are facing each other with the columns on the outside. We now have a front and a back.

Starting on the right side, flatten the columns. Apply glue to the back of the outermost section on the front and adhere it to the back. Repeat on the left side. The card base is complete and now it’s time to decorate!

ADHERE LAYERS

Adhere two forest green layering panels to the card front, then adhere the patterned paper panels. Similarly, adhere the patterned paper panels to the columns.

Flip the card over and adhere the two remaining forest green and both white cardstock layering panels to the back side. Finally, adhere the remaining patterned paper panels to the columns. Embellish the white panels with desired Garden Grace ephemera and wreath ephemera.

CREATE FOCAL IMAGE

Run a large foilable image from the super kit through the laminator with a sheet of gold foil (also from the super kit) with the shiny side up. Color the foiled image with alcohol markers and then cut it with a stitched oval nested cutting die using the 4th largest in the Love From Lizi set. Using the 3rd largest die in the same set, cut a slightly larger oval from the marzipan cardstock and layer them together.

Here is a shot of the focal image slightly tilted so you can see the foil. So pretty!

STAMP SENTIMENTS

Using the Garden Grace stamp set, stamp a sentiment directly onto the focal image in dark green ink.

Stamp another sentiment from the Garden Grace stamp set on the right-hand back panel in the same dark green ink.

CREATE & ADD POP-UP ELEMENT

Punch two 1-3/4” scallop circles from white cardstock to create the pop-up element. You can punch or die cut plain circles if you want. Score them in half and fold on the score lines.

Keeping the scallops (or circles) separate, apply wet glue to the back of each half and adhere to the card front, lining them up on the center score line.

Apply wet glue to the exposed half circles and adhere the focal image to the card front. Here is an overhead shot of what it should look like. Creating the pop-up element like this allows the scored panel to flex for standing to display or folding flat to mail.

COMPLETE PROJECT

Add a few white pearls from the Mini Pearl Strips, and the card is complete. The finished card size is 6” x 7”.
