A Shaker Card for My VW-Loving Husband
Hey crafty friends!
I'm excited to share a special card I created for Love From Lizi’s May 2025 Release, perfectly timed for Father’s Day, birthdays, or just because. This collection—called "For Him"—is full of masculine patterns, coordinating stamps, die cuts, and more. Even better? There’s a brand new Monthly Card Layout Challenge, and this card follows May’s layout. If you caught our Blog Hop, you might’ve seen a peek at this one—now I’m sharing all the juicy details here!
This card is a little love note to my husband. We're a Volkswagen family, and he’s especially obsessed with vintage Volkswagen cars and buses, so I couldn’t resist highlighting those in this card. The Love From Lizi "For Him" Release products made it so easy to pull together a fun, personalized design with texture, shine, and sentiment.
Supplies Used:
This is a list of supplies I used on my card project. Some of these products may include affiliate links that earn me a commission at no cost to you. Visual links to all products can be found on my blog: Stellar Crafts by Pam.

Love From Lizi May 2025 "For Him" Release
-
Love From Lizi Background Builder 1 die (for card layout)
-
Acetate and Foam Tape (for the shaker)
-
Basic cardmaking tools (paper trimmer, adhesive, etc.)
-
Brown dye ink
Step-by-Step Instructions:
-
Layer It Up:
I began by trimming a bold yellow patterned paper to A2 size (4.25" x 5.5") and adhering it to a cream-colored card base for a warm, sunshiney backdrop.
-
Build the Shaker Frame:
Using one of the plaid patterned papers, I trimmed it to the same A2 size, then used the large rectangle from the Background Builder 1 die set to create a shaker window near the top. I lined the window with brown peel-offs for a polished finish.
-
Create the Window Wells:
To form the shaker channels, I die cut three brown rectangles using the small rectangle die from the BB1 set, and did one more from leftover yellow paper for contrast. I also die cut a circle from scrap plaid paper for the sentiment focal point.
-
Stamp & Style the Sentiments:
I used brown ink to stamp three sentiments from the coordinating stamp set onto the die cut and scrap piece. For the “To my” and “Husband” pieces, I trimmed them into small rectangles for a typewriter tape look—super fun and retro!
-
Assemble the Shaker Element:
I adhered acetate behind the plaid frame to seal the shaker window, then lined up and glued the brown rectangles on top to divide it into sections. Foam tape (doubled up for height) went around the perimeter and behind each rectangle to create wells for the sequins. After a swipe with a powder tool to prevent sticking, I filled each well with a gorgeous mix of sequins.
-
Seal the Shaker:
I carefully removed the foam tape backing and laid the yellow card front face down onto the shaker piece to seal it all in. Shaky-shaky time!
-
Final Touches:
I layered everything together: the circle and cut sentiment strips went front and center, the yellow rectangle sentiment anchored the bottom, and I popped the VW bug and bus die cuts onto opposite corners for that road trip vibe. A few extra sequins sprinkled around gave it that final touch of sparkle.
Once all the elements were adhered and layered, I gave everything a good press to make sure the shaker elements moved freely, and the embellishments were secure. A card this interactive makes a big impression!
