🛠️ Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Start with the Background
I began with a piece of watercolor-style patterned paper in soft pinks and peaches. To add more visual interest, I stamped coordinating floral outlines all over the paper, creating a cohesive and artistic base layer. To add texture and depth, I used watered-down Dr. Ph. Martin’s Black Star ink to splatter across the background panel after I finished stamping the floral outlines. The splatters created a subtle, artsy effect that helps tie the black elements of the card together and gives the entire piece a more cohesive, mixed media feel.
Step 2: Add a Decorative Edge
I die cut the background panel using a wonky stitched rectangle die. This not only cleaned up the edges but added a subtle, whimsical frame around the florals.
Step 3: Die Cut the Bold Floral
Next, I die cut the large floral design from black cardstock. I adhered it directly onto the stamped background and carefully trimmed away any parts that extended past the edges.
Step 4: Emboss the Sentiment Banner
For the sentiment, I used vellum and ran it through an embossing folder that reads "Make Life Beautiful." I then cut the a banner shape from the vellum to fit perfectly across the floral die cut.
Step 5: Assemble the Focal Panel
I adhered the vellum banner across the center of the floral die cut. To enhance the design and coordinate with the hearts in the background paper, I added black heart peel-offs to both the banner and the card panel.
Step 6: Create the Card Layers
-
I trimmed a piece of white cardstock to 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" and adhered the finished panel to it, creating a thin white border.
-
Then I cut a piece of black polka dot patterned paper to 4.25" x 5.5" and adhered it to a top-folding white A2 card base.
-
Finally, I centered the bordered floral panel on top for a layered, polished finish.
✨ Final Thoughts
This card was such a joy to create! I love how the bold black elements pop against the soft watercolor background, and the vellum sentiment adds the perfect gentle touch. It’s a versatile card that works for encouragement, thinking of you, or any moment when someone needs a little beauty in their day.
